University of Phoenix Announces Six Full Tuition First Chance™ Scholarships to Boys and Girls Clubs of Ada County
Idaho Business Review announces clubs to be new honored charity at annual women’s event.
During a time when family budgets are exceptionally tight, the University of Phoenix (www.phoenix.edu) today announced it will provide six full tuition scholarships to high school seniors who are members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Ada County (www.bgclubidaho.com), any Club member parent or Club staff member.
“This life-changing gift from the University of Phoenix will bring hope to six worthy individuals who not only desire an opportunity to improve their lives through educational attainment, but have earned that opportunity by modeling the values that the Boys and Girls Clubs hold dear: respect, responsibility and integrity,” said Christine Donnell, board president for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Ada County.
The scholarships will be awarded under the umbrella of the University’s First Chance™ Scholarship program. The program is designed to promote the life-changing benefits of education and honor individuals who have shown the desire to improve their lives, and the lives of those around them, through education. The scholarship program was developed in memory of 19-year-old Ryan Francis, a talented student-athlete at the University of Southern California who was killed in a random act of violence during a special Mother’s Day visit to his hometown of Baton Rouge.
“We have a deep appreciation for the transformational work occurring at the Boys and Girls Clubs on a daily basis,” said Dr. Bill Bach, University of Phoenix Campus Director. “We know this scholarship will help the clubs continue to inspire many students, parents and staff, to pursue their dreams – whatever those may be.”
The First Chance™ Scholarships are available to graduating seniors who are members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Ada County, parents of club members as well as staff. The only condition is that applicants must not have any previous college experience. Scholarship recipients may choose to pursue either an Associate’s Degree at Axia College of the University of Phoenix or a Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Phoenix.
University of Phoenix Helps Send a Local Marching Band to Washington
When University of Phoenix heard that the Mountain Ridge High
School Pride of the West Marching Band was chosen to represent the
state of Arizona at the Inaugural Parade but that they might not go
due to financial limitations, they wanted to help. University of
Phoenix was one of the dozen or so local corporations that reached
out to the marching band and donated much-needed funding to send the
group of high school students to the Inaugural Celebrations on
Tuesday, January 20th. As one of the most decorated high school
marching bands in Arizona, the Glendale band was honored to have
been selected. University of Phoenix was proud to assist in sending
the enthusiastic group to Washington D.C. to participate in such a
once-in-a-lifetime experience.
