University of Phoenix celebrates Make a Difference Day with the Habitat for Humanity® Build Groundbreaking

In tandem with national Make a Difference Day on October 27, 2007, University of Phoenix was pleased to break ground for the Phoenix-area partnership with Habitat for Humanity®, Valley of the Sun. During the 15 week period, University of Phoenix employees will build a home for a low-income family in need of adequate shelter. Each week, over 30 volunteers will work together with the Habitat construction crew pounding nails, cutting wood, and framing the layout of the new home.

The October 27 groundbreaking filled the volunteers and the family with feelings of hope and togetherness as the ceremony kicked off with representatives from University of Phoenix and Habitat for Humanity® Valley of the Sun. In association to the partnership with University of Phoenix and the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee, the Super Bowl mascot, Team Captain Spike also made an appearance to kick off the official build. Positive emotions ran high as University of Phoenix volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure the foundation of the home, both literally and figuratively, was rock-solid.

Through this project as well as the many individual and campus supported initiatives happening every day, University of Phoenix continues to work towards not only being the University of Changing People’s Lives, but also the University of Giving Back.
